Venus transit

While I was in Bulgaria shooting Red Bull Cliff Search there was an astronomical phenomenon happening at the same time. Transit of Venus. This happens when the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and Earth and becomes visible against the solar disk. The event is similar as the solar eclipse but the Venus is although tree times as bigger as the moon also much farther away from the Earth an so it appears smaller. This event is one of the rarest predictable phenomena as it appears every 243 years in pair of events that are 8 years apart. The prior transit took place on 8 June 2004. In Europe the transit was visible after sunrise and I was quite lucky I was in Bulgaria as there were overcast clouds in central and west Europe at the time.

I checked the location the night before and choose the right spot for the shoot. There was a cross at the point where the sun rose behind the mountain which adds some mysterious atmosphere to the shot. I bought black polymer solar filter of ebay to safely shoot at the sun. I used Sony NEX-FS100 and NEX-5N for some B-roll footage with Samyang 500mm f/6.3 mirror lens, Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 w/ 2x teleconverter for the close ups of the Venus transit.
