I’ve been using Sony NEX-FS100 camera for a while now and I found best accessory for it. It’s a lens adapter. Sony E-Mount adapter ring to Nikon and Canon lenses. I bought one even though I don’t own a camera myself. I have some Nikon lenses that I like to use when I borrow the FS100 camera from work. And as we use 5Ds at work we also bought a Canon lens adapter. Why don’t I just use a kit lens that came with the camera? It’s worthless. Its only good feature is image stabilization but even that is useless on a lens with aperture range between f/3.5 and f/6.3. I’m glad you can buy the camera without it.

Sony NEX-FS100 best accessories, Nikon and Canon lens adapters.
These two came from the Amazon store for 40€ each (around $60).
Nikon G AF-S lens to Sony E-Mount NEX-3 NEX-5 Adapter Ring
Canon EOS EF Lens to Sony E mount NEX-5 NEX-3 Adapter Ring
As you can see they are not the same on the Amazon page as I got them by mail and they are not the expensive sort ones but they get the job done. Nikon one is slightly better as you can manually set the aperture. Canon lenses have electronic iris control and tab is why adapters which can also control the aperture cost a fraction more.

Using Sony NEX-FS100 with Nikon glass. Here you can see it with big Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-D ED lens with Fader ND filter.

Slightly more colorful version with Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM glass.
Next time I will write about the comparison I made between Nikon and Canon glass and between Sony NEX-FS100 and Canon EOS 5D MarkII cameras using the same Canon glass.

So you avoided using the tripod amount on the camera? You are mounting the whole thing via the adapter right? That is the safest way I guess?
Whenever there is a mounting point on the lens (big 70-200mm zooms) I use it because these are heavy lenses and camera is lighter than the lenses.
I think it would be safest to have mounted both the camera and the lens to the rig, but you would need special rig for that.
Some adapters have their own mounting points but they are scarce.
